Import an image into the software. The image can be a digital
photograph, scanned into the computer, or a stock photo image. The
only requirement is that it be RGB and either JPEG, TIF or BMP. The
image we are using for this example is a stock photo image.
TileCreatorPro supports 45+ tile palettes from companies such as Bisazza,
Trend, Carter, Kolorines, etc. Below our image is shown as a preview
of what the final tile design will be. Note the Tile Settings, which
help you to determine the size of the tile, the grout, and the final
image dimensions. We have converted the image using the Error Diffusion
method, which allows you to have more gradation and color blends between
tiles. You can also select a Nearest Color choice, which gives your
image a posterized look. We have also chosen the grout palette - Latricrete's
line of colors - from the File menu. Our tile detail level here is
3. Increase the number, and the amount of detail lessens; decrease
the number and detail increases (see the next two images).
Below is the same image, except that this time we used a more detailed
level - a setting of 1. This is a substantially larger design now,
at 68,000 tiles. We can change the size ratio by typing in another
number, as is shown in the next image.
You can also manipulate the hue, saturation and lightness.
For example, the saturation can be increased to give the color a
"richer" look by choosing the appropriate menu choice.
Based upon the original image which needed 7,490 tiles, we can print
a "materials list" of the tile needed for the project. TileCreatorPro
prints a list of tiles and the manufacturer's code for ordering
tile. You can also plug in your pricing to determine the raw cost
for tile materials. For our design of the eagle, we need 7,490 tiles
and the cost in this example would be $144.22.
TileCreatorPro is not limited to just image conversions. You can also
work with a blank drawing board to place your tiles individually.
Once you complete your design, save the file; export the image for
client design review; purchase your tile and complete the fabrication.
TileCreatorPro prints a grid that tells you where each tile goes to make
up the design. For instance, if red = 1 and blue = 2 and yellow =
3, wherever there is a number 1 on the grid, you place a red tile
in that spot. The same for blue and yellow, depending on where the
number falls on the grid. And what is a grid? A great tool for speeding
up tile fabrication. Pictured below is a 3/4" tile grid (you
can also get them in 3/8" and 1" tile sizes). By utilizing
a grid to fabricate your tile design, you can finish a square foot
of mosaic tile every 20-30 minutes by hand.
Or, if you need to build a random pattern for a wall, kitchen countertop,
bathroom or any other requirement, the Random Pattern selection lets
you set the design size, choose the tile, choose the percentage of
each tile used, and generate the pattern. The screen shot below shows
a three-color design with Carter Glass tile.
TileCreatorPro retails for $249.95 and can be purchased
